Once again, I’ve multibased to make them easy to set up and use. Thank goodness for the MDF sellers on eBay who helpfully sell most base sizes that I needed.</p><p>This unit are fire elementals. The salamander army seems synonymous with fire and the units completed here are mostly fire and flame related.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiR2W4XiQP13zQbl9ZXNrIJkmuzQYzHrN6pXBGgmYuDRBnibJ4YkEaCo6uYUSB1BiWQDSUDXmW80vKyogum4sfHivItQn1laMynhVQUb-LtMB7tabv-f-9d2tDPPLm8O5owzyhRjs4limB-lA4HQhJKrdqKgUW0aORU79tyTj8a8SCTJ0l55awpwMvhkQ/s3022/IMG_4274.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1791" data-original-width="3022" height="190" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiR2W4XiQP13zQbl9ZXNrIJkmuzQYzHrN6pXBGgmYuDRBnibJ4YkEaCo6uYUSB1BiWQDSUDXmW80vKyogum4sfHivItQn1laMynhVQUb-LtMB7tabv-f-9d2tDPPLm8O5owzyhRjs4limB-lA4HQhJKrdqKgUW0aORU79tyTj8a8SCTJ0l55awpwMvhkQ/s320/IMG_4274.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0jpzyAGIH3-BAQHpEvO7KRaG4IVHWbfek-zYaSufKHNbMOOlqYN4O7UdOqPe-0sqUdEOwJ7acfOinzW0ksImticestYug7yiD3c7UJjEV0Wr9AhsdWx5rUpWsg1OtZlHKzdQ1M_L-9SvK5jkDkyKvp_Z-RQTOcVJ4IoLWRt6vESfjVAfGt1h-OUwU_Q/s3430/IMG_4275.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3430" data-original-width="2118" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0jpzyAGIH3-BAQHpEvO7KRaG4IVHWbfek-zYaSufKHNbMOOlqYN4O7UdOqPe-0sqUdEOwJ7acfOinzW0ksImticestYug7yiD3c7UJjEV0Wr9AhsdWx5rUpWsg1OtZlHKzdQ1M_L-9SvK5jkDkyKvp_Z-RQTOcVJ4IoLWRt6vESfjVAfGt1h-OUwU_Q/s320/IMG_4275.jpeg" width="198" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha1bkUQtDh9TshAFf8Eh-4MbM0VoXALzZlOQrCCM675FiOVMdBKTLG2gS0Tyh0bdH2_WHkxkLRbiucOH29jJF9C29Mmb6VaiJKEftZfMKT2m_Val5UA06nKbopPb_zhzG5qPc3cyAbAC1nbN8gMeoO0s3D5OPt2Nlvgy_PHuxg9tvZSAKf4QcjOveIVA/s3022/IMG_4276.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2215" data-original-width="3022" height="235" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha1bkUQtDh9TshAFf8Eh-4MbM0VoXALzZlOQrCCM675FiOVMdBKTLG2gS0Tyh0bdH2_WHkxkLRbiucOH29jJF9C29Mmb6VaiJKEftZfMKT2m_Val5UA06nKbopPb_zhzG5qPc3cyAbAC1nbN8gMeoO0s3D5OPt2Nlvgy_PHuxg9tvZSAKf4QcjOveIVA/s320/IMG_4276.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><p>These chaps were pretty quick to paint up as I decided to be pretty abstract with the flames and use a mix of red, orange and yellow and some black to show soot and smoke. It was very much like that with the salamanders as I got my colour scheme for the main units and so was able to smash out a lot of salamanders in pretty good time….. but then I left the basing and a few models to finish each unit and so had virtually the whole army on the go at the same time!</p><p>Whilst this can be frustrating (even for me as I do it!) and messy (with lots of half finished things laying around the hobby room) the benefit of this approach is that every now and again lots of things get finished at the same time. This happened here and so I herewith present, the rank and file salamanders.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3WpXVP-kSFKeaZTBEPCS6EwiZAEmjtgKpCXfulJjSh6AUiTklRS_5fxM2OwktQ7N5KjGrUnwgz9RkSO5-c0jbOADYV_8ATZAds92mCHRVwSXnZpFTheMAH6lGaJEqsZOcD2gbE67eLrBC4df8e4TksyL3mqyp7lmoG4lj_K1xk3DxHOFbjG43uxrqSA/s4032/IMG_4205.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3WpXVP-kSFKeaZTBEPCS6EwiZAEmjtgKpCXfulJjSh6AUiTklRS_5fxM2OwktQ7N5KjGrUnwgz9RkSO5-c0jbOADYV_8ATZAds92mCHRVwSXnZpFTheMAH6lGaJEqsZOcD2gbE67eLrBC4df8e4TksyL3mqyp7lmoG4lj_K1xk3DxHOFbjG43uxrqSA/s320/IMG_4205.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg492j4tTFGe3ybMMzu4qcVL_L2NXy2Sqq1ld84z_9kl4MEtxVfphnD4m3npRCjmrTXTlQI5Zyps-N03g8KsS2W_un1X48D8uM01ObUW5SocHwarbpeYN3ta4pgAXH6vsjuQTrRDfKHCSEQXiJYkDxnSM0HyS6OWpnGSuDzZYqvwTrrApgE6s1wPtA6LA/s4032/IMG_4206.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg492j4tTFGe3ybMMzu4qcVL_L2NXy2Sqq1ld84z_9kl4MEtxVfphnD4m3npRCjmrTXTlQI5Zyps-N03g8KsS2W_un1X48D8uM01ObUW5SocHwarbpeYN3ta4pgAXH6vsjuQTrRDfKHCSEQXiJYkDxnSM0HyS6OWpnGSuDzZYqvwTrrApgE6s1wPtA6LA/s320/IMG_4206.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_mBF9v9wpmm1_t8vzEAMbnxAQ3hT0qQX73asYyqTq5eKI4rgx5dWVZE03_sXVBM_hwA8uWhLFIX-bUlzcAS47Wa_6JboY0rB7doGcnG-BGXYbtsU5eoYhS8XKyhxaum_Bx07hguM0-Y8aZ8ctWC3IIMfoJMnxEU0-YGuust8V2bgRMYrBxLmu-d8o0w/s4032/IMG_4207.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_mBF9v9wpmm1_t8vzEAMbnxAQ3hT0qQX73asYyqTq5eKI4rgx5dWVZE03_sXVBM_hwA8uWhLFIX-bUlzcAS47Wa_6JboY0rB7doGcnG-BGXYbtsU5eoYhS8XKyhxaum_Bx07hguM0-Y8aZ8ctWC3IIMfoJMnxEU0-YGuust8V2bgRMYrBxLmu-d8o0w/s320/IMG_4207.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><p>This unit counts as a regiment in game and I armed with swords and shields. I decided to multi-base them as it means I can be set up for a game very quickly. Whilst it means that I can’t use the figures in other games, I think the trade off is well worth it as I’d rather use figures properly in one game than have them more flexible for other games that I’ll likely never play in reality.</p><p>In Kings of War, you’re encouraged to use 20 individual figures in a regiment, but they suggest a minimum of 75% of that where possible as it looks good. These salamander figures are pretty bulky and so I went with 15 and as you’ll see from this picture of the next unit, it’s not like I had much spare space!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwBQHi-DYS1CzVEh8frdtDOZMsyq8An7tcV01fnjfLr03YurtXB5AdtTG6rjAZJZVnB7s_r3IrGauFdkHuTBmfuYMRf3xtMIsgRlMNPA7nfR2cSEBV6KBTCBPsukGZ4741cCMsN9TC6HfC5Dy6oYwobL2KA0qLK_73VNYXXV_g3PwoUjGmc1YbquvcoQ/s4032/IMG_4210.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwBQHi-DYS1CzVEh8frdtDOZMsyq8An7tcV01fnjfLr03YurtXB5AdtTG6rjAZJZVnB7s_r3IrGauFdkHuTBmfuYMRf3xtMIsgRlMNPA7nfR2cSEBV6KBTCBPsukGZ4741cCMsN9TC6HfC5Dy6oYwobL2KA0qLK_73VNYXXV_g3PwoUjGmc1YbquvcoQ/s320/IMG_4210.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><p>This next unit is the same as the first, but is armed with clubs and axes. They use the same base bodies as the main units, but have resin upgrades for arms and heads.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6F2f5eumb7G5_z0DwQjD8BHZsUxhGUYITW0JNzlfYg3UWuRiMlUBbFJCG4Qjq6BBOMzQj-KPOHq1Mrfr8b5A2H83BapgRBF5TmWXiZj7oUG28yENhzvXuzLpo_Vvl0GERLsZ4rOBsvGGoeQdzXTrqC0ugu70tEE2KG1By7FAKcytZcazHUgIBwnPXVg/s4032/IMG_4214.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6F2f5eumb7G5_z0DwQjD8BHZsUxhGUYITW0JNzlfYg3UWuRiMlUBbFJCG4Qjq6BBOMzQj-KPOHq1Mrfr8b5A2H83BapgRBF5TmWXiZj7oUG28yENhzvXuzLpo_Vvl0GERLsZ4rOBsvGGoeQdzXTrqC0ugu70tEE2KG1By7FAKcytZcazHUgIBwnPXVg/s320/IMG_4214.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh194lk9k9uAU5PsZ4i5KU_m9Y88CS05zbhszx8DICS13pXjVAL2mjZ0RLwIlmcwrfVEPfMRQIsd8OmvxAZkjFc3J_RX0KTeiRioheYev5Mg9Mdfrvfpc2WXWsZRWH4fspprvrPZtn7sGAmjK9waS_jYnvigFZ7mnJhv7kSI7ATJGpbQ0_i507K_ggJNA/s4032/IMG_4215.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh194lk9k9uAU5PsZ4i5KU_m9Y88CS05zbhszx8DICS13pXjVAL2mjZ0RLwIlmcwrfVEPfMRQIsd8OmvxAZkjFc3J_RX0KTeiRioheYev5Mg9Mdfrvfpc2WXWsZRWH4fspprvrPZtn7sGAmjK9waS_jYnvigFZ7mnJhv7kSI7ATJGpbQ0_i507K_ggJNA/s320/IMG_4215.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyPlrNros6k0Zhl5-EXwiZ5BPdX4yvLHoVd6hUp2wigryG5ojwU4SB3cSpWZKDKLTnLBDNPBh9KMvDxw1rtPty5TjACGKSc1eQhvMmAM445jdFCzxtOQP_wGW2ZXOUvdTAbuWp574QcpAn31rWsZM5YRM4-8lF6FdnHrLFVRbbywRvIpwPm4cCDP7QbQ/s4032/IMG_4216.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyPlrNros6k0Zhl5-EXwiZ5BPdX4yvLHoVd6hUp2wigryG5ojwU4SB3cSpWZKDKLTnLBDNPBh9KMvDxw1rtPty5TjACGKSc1eQhvMmAM445jdFCzxtOQP_wGW2ZXOUvdTAbuWp574QcpAn31rWsZM5YRM4-8lF6FdnHrLFVRbbywRvIpwPm4cCDP7QbQ/s320/IMG_4216.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><p>Again I went for a lighter model count than the maximum but there was again very little space left on the base!</p><p>Next up is the more unusual units for the army and to see if I can keep my focus enough to get this army done in its entirety before I start working on a different project……</p>JamieMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06206287212346614676noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4771064873381614374.post-17594840362112337202023-03-09T20:03:00.001+00:002023-03-09T20:03:21.757+00:00The Salamander Army Takes Shape<p> I had to have a bit of a break whilst we had our kitchen redone - my painting room was he room chosen to be “the studio flat that we all lived in whilst the work was being done, so the whole room was just full of stuff and meant all of my paints had to be packed away…..</p><p>But that’s all done now and so I got out the salamanders again as the striping and starting painting had happened before all of that.</p><p>Anyway, I settled on a nice and simple paint scheme as I have waaaaaaay too many figures and scenery waiting for some attention. So decided that I wanted to get these done and on the table quickly. First up, a grey primer for the salamander warriors and onto painting sticks as I was going to multibase them</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiceID3hI2eb5dAP3MJeopckFCnbX7QdFz2Xql9UIuMF_90FvWHfoUYqTW0baiAcFUwVFUxeUV9C1jUdYNTFKi637XKVtgivAhs5YJ8LaurLlM8lFGnY9lCou--66rpNNtUb7B9WW2UZrR0qrq8iAhIecYOEBtI3EEEdGIGRTnx5xyx1pwId0n9pR9mVA/s4032/FC38F716-0B9A-4538-9160-F4C7B1FED06C.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiceID3hI2eb5dAP3MJeopckFCnbX7QdFz2Xql9UIuMF_90FvWHfoUYqTW0baiAcFUwVFUxeUV9C1jUdYNTFKi637XKVtgivAhs5YJ8LaurLlM8lFGnY9lCou--66rpNNtUb7B9WW2UZrR0qrq8iAhIecYOEBtI3EEEdGIGRTnx5xyx1pwId0n9pR9mVA/s320/FC38F716-0B9A-4538-9160-F4C7B1FED06C.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEid_TJ4oQpBc0DNSjWkj5SXi9pyuJdlD8HdkoZBFeIeUT55sHcoiMC-ZocDaZyN5MZ6Kpxfk3HNrACVxoPCGgLkz5X2aXDWXlPdM1WcSsmvk_Fy-oTM-kDT6M6TmdOHZ3kORgF3FigcRDBWioGQoFtXot8TfaAekQqQ-DlPzcxxR-Nwg4AElh2yQiuCpw/s4032/28E16E69-7AA9-4282-95CD-AC01A8900DE1.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEid_TJ4oQpBc0DNSjWkj5SXi9pyuJdlD8HdkoZBFeIeUT55sHcoiMC-ZocDaZyN5MZ6Kpxfk3HNrACVxoPCGgLkz5X2aXDWXlPdM1WcSsmvk_Fy-oTM-kDT6M6TmdOHZ3kORgF3FigcRDBWioGQoFtXot8TfaAekQqQ-DlPzcxxR-Nwg4AElh2yQiuCpw/s320/28E16E69-7AA9-4282-95CD-AC01A8900DE1.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMIaA0g71JT01WpH_p_6exJ984d8qud_P-9p32PQq0p2jJDIQrv45K5Yq2_6ho2KPdiTrf9NPx6rzkWkZdkoCdgkRVLTMWQP_ejO-jTnDcdWoY5scqbgiirP-l7ZBYc6DaCeg-NCN6uJ8zyn_tTrer8eD3y_VcM2H7X27fWXy83WH4q7oXVkHc2X8dNw/s4032/CB66D579-CEC2-4232-A239-B0BB1C6DDD2B.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMIaA0g71JT01WpH_p_6exJ984d8qud_P-9p32PQq0p2jJDIQrv45K5Yq2_6ho2KPdiTrf9NPx6rzkWkZdkoCdgkRVLTMWQP_ejO-jTnDcdWoY5scqbgiirP-l7ZBYc6DaCeg-NCN6uJ8zyn_tTrer8eD3y_VcM2H7X27fWXy83WH4q7oXVkHc2X8dNw/s320/CB66D579-CEC2-4232-A239-B0BB1C6DDD2B.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;">The scheme relied on contrast paints, washes and a bit of touching up</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwoyYyWeoQEfARRx7Suq7X9o6q4A_4xbDmQDNnZMjFNaANmmNHpGd-tTOoHmCzoLaHP1aZU9rM8Q3R63-fIPpeLHnuGjT4u8soO2EX_gTnHeLFbAhDkcRuqEjBjncACpEEbn8wXY1L3r2kMyU6x7peKW8iazMOGK5eRiMFiureJO5nHDeI2eFPDdWFFA/s3840/CD55BC02-0CD8-49AF-B1D7-9C86A9E82A36.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3840" data-original-width="2160" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwoyYyWeoQEfARRx7Suq7X9o6q4A_4xbDmQDNnZMjFNaANmmNHpGd-tTOoHmCzoLaHP1aZU9rM8Q3R63-fIPpeLHnuGjT4u8soO2EX_gTnHeLFbAhDkcRuqEjBjncACpEEbn8wXY1L3r2kMyU6x7peKW8iazMOGK5eRiMFiureJO5nHDeI2eFPDdWFFA/s320/CD55BC02-0CD8-49AF-B1D7-9C86A9E82A36.jpeg" width="180" /></a></div><p>Pleased that I was getting through the rank and file nicely, I started on the fun, flamy elements of the army. The usual reasons posted on any hobby blog which hasn’t been updated for a while apply, but also a more personal and sadder one. One of our stalwart gaming group passed away at the start of 2020 and frankly he was the one who was keeping the blog going. We all took a bit of a knock from that and still miss him terribly, but I’ve now decided that I should get back on the blog, partly as paying my respects to Nat as he’d have wanted us to get painting (he was always, quite rightly, telling us to paint and play instead of buying more things!) and as a diary of what I’ve done.</div><p>So, what am I starting with? Why a complete army for a game that I’ve never played of course!</p><p>Kings of War looks like a very good game. I’ve become disillusioned with age of sigmar and 40K for a number of reasons, with the main one being that I can’t fit a game into an evening anymore. But I do really like the sci fi and fantasy genres so I’m moving over to trying the games produced by other companies, including the Mantic stable, which look great and seemed designed to fit into an evening’s play.</p><p>Idly scrolling through eBay (and yes, I do count searching specifically for “Kings of War army” as “idly scrolling”!) I happened across a large, but very badly painted salamander army for auction….. I stalked it for a few days, telling myself that I already had too much stuff and didn’t need it…… and then obviously pounced at the end when my willpower crumbled away in seconds. But it was a bargain!</p><p>Here are some pictures of the unboxed win</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjl25Hz7AMB6NZxZaArU1pNFbNsaxA849Tlmkn7B771PeHqoy04uqkY2k3Xx9o-2aa2VimoATaYvvfLrES4PW_iFtDDb9S-KgLqga8EdUzQ_bEs1FzJXXYRy7jg-beUp9Bkj-yZkb1pX7ODIsoGcXpTt4ILdW17HOzusdvtI3bzNYvyUhmKOnNBO8ZGgA/s4032/1DC3DDAD-51FE-40C8-9A5A-4630A502D49B.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; I decided that I’d paint strip the bigger, posher resin green models for the most part (I was pleasantly surprised to see that the resin stuff produced by Mantic is lovely these days, easily the match of other producers), but that I’d just overspray the rank and file salamanders with undercoat and go from there. I reasoned that the larger models would be more visible whereas the rank and file would merge together more. And it would have driven me a bit bonkers having to paint strip everything.</p><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgRTgHkOfkRkJqBN_0u2H2RktZ6K2ifc262q1WKvedqwqGbzPIi9YUfGaPifzIkigYT9YD7MxPhbwhjyaS5s2189gUF9t69HRX-lyIkSRz1WeBoB3SRqxrFCaweRg6lJ3Dz1yt6s-jJ4W1NzaWd73yWTzU3CriXaIUhZvoqzy6I0dvy61mGToADegglA/s3840/E7E4FF83-3964-49FA-B9A8-5F893D6C2BC8.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3840" data-original-width="2160" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgRTgHkOfkRkJqBN_0u2H2RktZ6K2ifc262q1WKvedqwqGbzPIi9YUfGaPifzIkigYT9YD7MxPhbwhjyaS5s2189gUF9t69HRX-lyIkSRz1WeBoB3SRqxrFCaweRg6lJ3Dz1yt6s-jJ4W1NzaWd73yWTzU3CriXaIUhZvoqzy6I0dvy61mGToADegglA/s320/E7E4FF83-3964-49FA-B9A8-5F893D6C2BC8.jpeg" width="180" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Into the bio strip….</td></tr></tbody></table><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisG_guuhFz0OBtREDjRaozBFtcui7yQXJJ9ijEOnf99xczxoCM86CYa8c6q4E5cLjTfJfBpVLxtIpk3IlRZU9-cg-Cc_A-lmygbN9rlhpHsK1Qp_CsdOL1tIa2pYG4eDgOzrzFDgr3bbgM8CLnsjVTZvY0rrM0vBw3g0KgVwblLmqdigjXZkDDhWFlYg/s3840/CD435A51-CC9B-46A1-A481-B23E4567019D.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3840" data-original-width="2160" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisG_guuhFz0OBtREDjRaozBFtcui7yQXJJ9ijEOnf99xczxoCM86CYa8c6q4E5cLjTfJfBpVLxtIpk3IlRZU9-cg-Cc_A-lmygbN9rlhpHsK1Qp_CsdOL1tIa2pYG4eDgOzrzFDgr3bbgM8CLnsjVTZvY0rrM0vBw3g0KgVwblLmqdigjXZkDDhWFlYg/s320/CD435A51-CC9B-46A1-A481-B23E4567019D.jpeg" width="180" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>Happy with how things were going, I started painting, which I’ll update next time.<br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>JamieMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06206287212346614676noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4771064873381614374.post-74074889299878552782019-09-13T16:59:00.001+01:002019-09-30T13:50:56.804+01:00Random distractions<br />
My efforts have been somewhat lacking in direction following
the completion of the Mustafar set so I’ve been following my muse and just
picking up little bits that took my fancy.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OVoI5b8pdp8/XXu8egTywaI/AAAAAAAACMM/hthVQDAwmN4pEjOJB2YatrjpQ9zV0oD1QCEwYBhgL/s1600/Tables%2Bchairs%2Band%2Bbeds.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OVoI5b8pdp8/XXu8egTywaI/AAAAAAAACMM/hthVQDAwmN4pEjOJB2YatrjpQ9zV0oD1QCEwYBhgL/s320/Tables%2Bchairs%2Band%2Bbeds.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
After finishing the scrap cars for my pulp city scenery collection,
I thought I might do some of the other little incidental bits as some of them
have been hanging around for years. First off were some generic bits including tables,
chairs & beds. Quick and easy!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-M79bVvbzP6k/XXu8de1aVMI/AAAAAAAACME/TnHsSWNVzF8-D5Rrx1npp5u6EAUVo6KqwCEwYBhgL/s1600/Arcade%2Bmachine.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-M79bVvbzP6k/XXu8de1aVMI/AAAAAAAACME/TnHsSWNVzF8-D5Rrx1npp5u6EAUVo6KqwCEwYBhgL/s320/Arcade%2Bmachine.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I got a TTcombat arcade a couple of years ago. I’ve not
painted the building yet but the idea of painting an arcade machine tickled me.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tGc20KeibnE/XXu8dWXjGEI/AAAAAAAACMI/slXzKpQR1B8A68rS68TPM7yydvdU_S3FwCEwYBhgL/s1600/Sentry%2Bpost.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tGc20KeibnE/XXu8dWXjGEI/AAAAAAAACMI/slXzKpQR1B8A68rS68TPM7yydvdU_S3FwCEwYBhgL/s320/Sentry%2Bpost.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Random build. WWII sentry post.<br />
<br />

<br />
Colours was at the weekend and this mdf kit caught my eye. Rickety
and characterful. I’m looking forward to painting it!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j9xvpwaxRNU/XXu8dY70sHI/AAAAAAAACMA/wPKI6IfL0u0QdAk7oTG9ot2_sfaVPW5lgCEwYBhgL/s1600/PC%2BTown.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j9xvpwaxRNU/XXu8dY70sHI/AAAAAAAACMA/wPKI6IfL0u0QdAk7oTG9ot2_sfaVPW5lgCEwYBhgL/s320/PC%2BTown.JPG" width="240" /></a> </div>
<br />
All this contemporary scenery stuff got my juices following
for a bit of superhero gaming so we broke out the town for a game.<br />

I still don't actually consider it ready as I've not added any vehicles.<br />
<br />
I three years ago (gulp!) I brought two 28mm resin cars to add to this set. I'd deliberately not painted them yet as I'd intended to try and do some cheap moulding from them to make some car parts to add to the scrapyard part of my scenery collection. Of course that was the plan but I'd not gotten around to it.<br />
<br />
I ended up having a free hour at the weekend and it struck me that it could be a fun and slightly messy thing to do with the kids...so out came the tin foil and plaster to give it a crack.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7XN0oNKBT3Q/XW-zDSMVeAI/AAAAAAAACLY/EQRRZuPUT1A_xeO22Xhtjl81_XAu8cDEACLcBGAs/s1600/Car%2Bfoil.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7XN0oNKBT3Q/XW-zDSMVeAI/AAAAAAAACLY/EQRRZuPUT1A_xeO22Xhtjl81_XAu8cDEACLcBGAs/s320/Car%2Bfoil.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I wrapped one side of the cars in foil, gently starting with the roof and carefully pressing it down around the body of the vehicles. There was no way to avoid creases but I wasn't too worried as they are meant to be junk! The surplus foil on the sheet was rolled round to add some support to the mould for when the plaster was added.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_1qxIkagUzI/XW-zEehgSnI/AAAAAAAACLs/dZbglepo5HYDmoZ_2JUBbebft0vlIbncQCEwYBhgL/s1600/Car%2Bplaster.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_1qxIkagUzI/XW-zEehgSnI/AAAAAAAACLs/dZbglepo5HYDmoZ_2JUBbebft0vlIbncQCEwYBhgL/s320/Car%2Bplaster.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I extracted the originals fairly carefully then gave the foil a poke and a prod to deform it. Then the plaster was poured and left for an hour. I wasn't sure at this stage but hoped that they would come out okay.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bVh6XaFb6v0/XW-zDSeonvI/AAAAAAAACLg/U8ufa7Y7vyEsb-9fVzWXTwvvdIdlINOCACEwYBhgL/s1600/Car%2Bbased.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bVh6XaFb6v0/XW-zDSeonvI/AAAAAAAACLg/U8ufa7Y7vyEsb-9fVzWXTwvvdIdlINOCACEwYBhgL/s320/Car%2Bbased.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div>
I wanted to protect the edges of the plaster at the base as I suspected it would chip easily there. I thought the best way would be to mount them on some plastic basing material which also meant I could use the sand to help them look like they were buried slightly.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CWO_F81yaj0/XW-0lTgwG-I/AAAAAAAACL0/o9EUUyFkvFkKBDGGT8aNaBTcsP-GOgjRgCLcBGAs/s1600/Car%2Bflocked.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CWO_F81yaj0/XW-0lTgwG-I/AAAAAAAACL0/o9EUUyFkvFkKBDGGT8aNaBTcsP-GOgjRgCLcBGAs/s320/Car%2Bflocked.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div>
Just paint after that to finish them off. Simply bit of weathering and they were all sorted.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Now I just need to paint the proper vehicles!</div>

<br />
Using a great basing <a href="https://prometianpainting.wordpress.com/2018/05/30/tutorial-lava-bases/">tutorial</a> I had found, I made some drop on scenery tiles for the lava. They took a lot of painting as there was numerous layers to build up the lava effect. Pretty pleased with it tho'!<br />

<br />
I'd gotten a cheap plastic Dino from Ebay ages ago and even slapped some spikes and bling on it with the intention of using it as a Dread Saurian. Well....that was the plan. Instead its been gathering dust and adding to my self-induced stress over the amount of projects I've started but not finished.<br />
<br />
Talk of battle changed this and I got busy!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-srPDhHYJoXY/XUls91jk3gI/AAAAAAAACIg/Vq6XsbKim3cTdayMDbaRzPj7sLZh04OyACEwYBhgL/s1600/Dread%2Bsaurian1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-srPDhHYJoXY/XUls91jk3gI/AAAAAAAACIg/Vq6XsbKim3cTdayMDbaRzPj7sLZh04OyACEwYBhgL/s320/Dread%2Bsaurian1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jFL0k_RSbuY/XUls99OYhLI/AAAAAAAACIY/zMoWCzlW_48h5bT4yRN43ogGeIAwMDpJQCEwYBhgL/s1600/Dread%2BSaurian2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jFL0k_RSbuY/XUls99OYhLI/AAAAAAAACIY/zMoWCzlW_48h5bT4yRN43ogGeIAwMDpJQCEwYBhgL/s320/Dread%2BSaurian2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I'd also found an ebay seller (Tabletopengineeruk) who sells alternative Razordons. I'd wanted more but the GW price is toooo high! These 3D printed ones had a good design and came in at a good price, 3 for £14.00! Bargain!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4ZwmHKMmINo/XUls999MCiI/AAAAAAAACIc/56VCAUAmm3Mevxc8BoCX-N2zNUJA337vgCEwYBhgL/s1600/Razordon.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4ZwmHKMmINo/XUls999MCiI/AAAAAAAACIc/56VCAUAmm3Mevxc8BoCX-N2zNUJA337vgCEwYBhgL/s320/Razordon.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I've loved my Razordons in game. It is really satisfying when people charge them and they manage to get off their instinctive behaviour shots at their would be attackers. Given the shots they put out the chances of blunting a charge are actually favourable!<br />
<br />

I'm hoping to see these on the table this week!<br />

Next is the lava sections. I’ve got the plastic sheet to be
the basing for it but having seen a few inspiring tutorials I have decided to
use cork tiles for the rocks. I don’t have any cork tiles so I’ll need to
squeeze in a shopping trip shortly. My kids are away soon for summer holidays
so this may well mean that I get a chance to blitz a hobby job whist they are
not around to ….um....help.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
After that I want to ad some rock piles as scatter and I
have some pink foam left over from other jobs to use. Then it will just be
making sure I have enough cargo crates and other scatter to add cover around on
the platforms.<br />

I’ve got Kra’vak ships from GZG still unpainted but they are seriously old.
I think I prefer the idea of using the Shaltari fleet from DFC as proxies
instead. If that doesn’t work I can always buy some of the updated Kra’Vak figures
at Colours or Warfare. <br />

Talk has started about a mega gun of AoS in November so thoughts have turned to new forces to be added to my Seraphon forces. Hunting around I came across, quite by accident, a fellow selling alternative Razordons<br />
<br />
Check out: <a href="https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/tabletopengineeruk?_trksid=p2047675.l2559">https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/tabletopengineeruk?_trksid=p2047675.l2559</a><br />

Cool 3D printed goods. One to watch I reckon.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-H34Rm68u9vo/XTsS6qXYdtI/AAAAAAAACHY/_wqd8sU7M_0PFi_xqV1aRwHlElFQo1qzwCEwYBhgL/s1600/Razordons1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-H34Rm68u9vo/XTsS6qXYdtI/AAAAAAAACHY/_wqd8sU7M_0PFi_xqV1aRwHlElFQo1qzwCEwYBhgL/s320/Razordons1.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Long story short I ordered a bundle and I was properly impressed when they arrived. The print quality is good and I can't discern any contour lines that I believe are typical with low quality 3D prints.<br />

<br />
Urn has got a force for The Covenant of Antarctica so they need some aeronef as well. I went for a flying wing design as it felt a bit more progressive in keeping with their heavy leaning towards innovation and technology.<br />
<br />
And a smaller one to run the troops around.<br />
<br />
Just the Prussian ones to go now and they are well under-way. oh...and I really should paint some of the figures!<br />

I am determined to get these done before the end of July. Then I can get on and make the lava areas for the board.<br />

After these bits there are only a few bits left to do but they are sizable pieces so will take a couple of days each.<br />

<br />
I’ve been working away at the walkways for ages and decided
to give myself a quick hobby break. I have a great many started projects in my
study so I’m keeping up with my resolve to get things done and finished instead
of starting anything new.<br />
<br />
<br />
Wark backed the Drop Fleet Commander Kickstarter a number of
years ago and very kindly handled me a fleet when it delivered. Well It struck
me that I really should paint these up especially as I will be able to use them
for Full Thrust as well.<br />
<br />

Two tones of sprayed red, some washes and a couple of
details picked out and they were done. <br />

They really are nifty models and I really quite like the Hawk interface widgets. Handy solution to the basing issue with Space models at this scale.<br />

This also made me dig out several old Full Thrust forces which I've had for...literally decades.<br />

There's still a long away to go but I'm getting there!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xdAlSIhce_4/XO_VODsQsuI/AAAAAAAACEY/eXQqDigZ1NEq-pV0AQu58lpzuU_i0y2QACEwYBhgL/s1600/Platform2b.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xdAlSIhce_4/XO_VODsQsuI/AAAAAAAACEY/eXQqDigZ1NEq-pV0AQu58lpzuU_i0y2QACEwYBhgL/s320/Platform2b.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
All pieces are made now and a couple need their last spray to cover the exposed wood on the edges.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IZGXLfPFW68/XO_VOCJng-I/AAAAAAAACEU/6DbgoNdPzn0dyQ5e-6m0trGeQSTEwb-qACEwYBhgL/s1600/Platform2a.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IZGXLfPFW68/XO_VOCJng-I/AAAAAAAACEU/6DbgoNdPzn0dyQ5e-6m0trGeQSTEwb-qACEwYBhgL/s320/Platform2a.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm generally happy with how the colour scheme is going. I suspect that I will find the three coats of red to be quite tedious in the end but at the moment I'm still nicely motivated.<br />
<br />

<br />
I need to start thinking about the lava sections as well. I've got some 3mm foamed PVC ready as the base and some pink foam for the craggy bits soI think I'm all good to go on that part. I'll need to take over the dining room table for a few evenings so I have space enough to work on those bits.<br />

There wasn't much to do, just some basing on the pod and weathering on the nose section.<br />
<br />
Good to get this done and satisfying as it was the first set that I designed.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AS5FbetiS0E/XNlhs1mujAI/AAAAAAAACCs/cHJmsFyUOtUigq8JvbxzFSkE4eQS_0iTgCLcBGAs/s1600/blotz%2Bpile.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AS5FbetiS0E/XNlhs1mujAI/AAAAAAAACCs/cHJmsFyUOtUigq8JvbxzFSkE4eQS_0iTgCLcBGAs/s320/blotz%2Bpile.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Loads to do but I needed to pin down my colour scheme before getting stuck in. I'd painted the Blotz demo ones white but I wanted to go dark with my set to fit in with dark volcanic look for the table.<br />
<br />
So I started with a black under coat. I usually spray them whilst they are still on the flat sprue and then again after construction. This avoids any difficulties getting the spray into nooks and crannies after putting the kits together.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Wuhdl86PN5Q/XNlhs1xkkdI/AAAAAAAACCk/dVvNrssW7TU84FJRdCAlO9Up4OMPdt9TQCEwYBhgL/s1600/Test%2Bplatform.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Wuhdl86PN5Q/XNlhs1xkkdI/AAAAAAAACCk/dVvNrssW7TU84FJRdCAlO9Up4OMPdt9TQCEwYBhgL/s320/Test%2Bplatform.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
After undercoating I gave the center of the platform a dry brush of medium grey as I wanted to break up the black and give the panels alternative contrasts. The main body was very dark so I picked out the detail on the leg panels and painted the platform edges and rail supports.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-07XspZIQt_8/XNlhs5ZxV3I/AAAAAAAACCo/puBMjIBWdrMY1LFO1I5eN2HbFb5a2mK_QCEwYBhgL/s1600/Test%2Bplat2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-07XspZIQt_8/XNlhs5ZxV3I/AAAAAAAACCo/puBMjIBWdrMY1LFO1I5eN2HbFb5a2mK_QCEwYBhgL/s320/Test%2Bplat2.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
After that I tinkered with colours until settling on the ones shown. I want to pick out a couple of details with gold but this is essentially it now.<br />
<br />
Right! Just a ton more to paint.<br />

<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
After designing the submarine last year my thoughts had
moved back to a concept that had been rolling around my noggin for a time.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I’d been think about a set of walkways, mostly inspired by
Star Wars, could be interconnected and had additional pieces to add flavour to
the set. Now walkways have been done plenty of times before so I wanted to do
something that made the set different.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I toyed with the idea for a while until my first eureka
moment which was when I cottoned onto the idea that the joins could be handled
using a ‘jigsaw’ piece connection that was echoed throughout the set. So I
merrily came up with an interface and proceeded to try and create the walkways
that would be the constituent parts of the set. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Whilst drawing up the intial walkways themselves I bumped
into the question of hand rails. Now the Star Wars setting isn’t always
particularly strong on handrails as they seem to hamper the leaping and
fighting for the Jedi and their enemies. However I wanted them because it wasn’t
just going to be for Star Wars Legion, I wanted it to have a wider sci-fi use.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Then I had the second eureka moment when I ended up handling
how to interface the handrails between pieces. It became apparent that they
needed to marry up and be inter-connectable like the jigsaw connections for the
main body of the walkways.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
After quite a bit of jiggery and swearing I finally managed
to get a working design and merrily set about design the rest of the set. Two
weeks later and it was done and I was excited to get them into production…..which
for a variety of reasons hasn’t happened until this year.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">A few years ago I stumbled across a fun little thing on the internet - a bunch of people who collected miniatures and had decided they needed motivation to get them all painted up. So they decided upon a scoring system (bigger scales/models get more points) and they made blog posts about them on the same blog to encourage each other to get things painted. The community of gamers and painters on the "<a href="https://thepaintingchallenge.blogspot.com/">Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge</a>" was such fun that I'm now on my fourth year! It runs for about 3 months from December to March and is responsible for the vast majority of my painting output for the last few years.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Anyway, you can have "side duels" against other entrants where you challenge each other to paint the most points of something. Two AHPCs ago (yes, two) I lost a duel to GregB which was based around how many points of Horus Heresy miniatures we could paint. Greg absolutely smashed me and when I asked what figure he wanted, he asked for a survivor of the Drop site massacre..... Little did he know it would take me two years to actually make good on my promise (insert embarrassed smiley face here.....) Now, for background, there were 18 Space Marine legions at the time of the Horus Heresy. Four of them turned rogue and purged the loyalists in their ranks. When this was discovered, 7 loyalist legions were sent to the Istvaan system to destroy them, attacking from space onto the Drop site where the four traitor legions were dug in. Three legions made up the first wave and then the remaining four legions dropped in the second wave.... but these last four legions had also secretly turned traitor and so the 3 legions from the first wave were massacred in the crossfire with very few escaping.</span></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">It took me quite a while (and more than one abandoned idea) before I came up with what I wanted and here he is - Barek Furibundus, Dreadnought.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Deciding that having Barek rejoin the fight was worth the use of the heretic equipment, they effected battlefield repairs and so he fights on. The Wordbearers Legion iconography has been crudely scratched off (decals added and then scratched/painted over..... am I mad?!?!?). With his group managing to escape the battlefield on a commandeered Thunderhawk, Furibundus will fight on across the worlds of the 31st millennium, opposing the forces of Horus wherever he can to avenge his fallen brothers...</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Anyway, a massive thank you to Greg for being a total gent and never once chasing the (long) overdue duel-gelt whilst I faffed around not knowing what to make for it. I've also left the base unhighlighted as despite zooming in on Greg's Horus Heresy bases, I couldn't find a brown in my paint collection to match so figured Greg could highlight and add some tufts to make him fit in better with the forces he'll be fighting alongside.</span></div>

Three posts and all of them on the same topic. Which is now finished. And allows me to play the game with all painted miniatures. It's a good job I'm sitting down as I type this as the last time I achieved anything like this was the previous Warhammer Quest game GW did, "The Silver Tower"! So I now present the Adventurers from the Blackstone Fortress game.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">First up, the Rogue Trader (middle) himself and two of his buddies</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Rogue Traders go waaaaaaaay back in WH40k. The first game was named for them after all. They're essentially captains of lone ships or flotillas of ships and their remit is to explore the galaxy, investigating things and generally getting rather rich in the process. Bit like Christopher Columbus in space. They can have crews of specialists, Imperial Guards regiments and even space marine assigned to them to help them do whatever needs to doing spread the word of the Emperor, find new planets, contact new races and either steal their stuff, or kill them and then steal their stuff.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div>
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">My Rogue Trader mixes kits from Warhammer Fantasy Battle and the 40k world and I'm rather pleased with his arrogant manner and gesture. The adventurers in Blackstone Fortress represent the Rogue Trader Janus Drake and the motley crew that he's surrounded himself with. The other two are a Kroot mercenary, now working with him (not much converting needed here, just a selection of stuff added and a pelt) and the Navigator. Navigators are the mutant psychics able to pilot ships through "Warp Space" using their third eye which grows in their forehead. I chose a helmet with something that could be a third eye and I rather like the staff which is also from a mix of kits.</span><br />

<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Next up are the Mechanicum related adventurers. The two little chaps are Ratlings (Halflings in space) and one is a sniper with the other having a tracker and other assorted gubbins instead. They started life as goblin bodies and with a few choice Imperial guard and skitarii parts they become ratlings. The heads come from an old bretonnian sprue as they really looked the part for me.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div>
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The last chap is the large robot explorer. The one in the boxed set steps outside the usual Grimdark aesthetic and GW explain that he is a relic of a bygone age. I like my future properly Grim and Dark though, so I converted him to be a mighty servitor (cyborg) with an unfeasibly large gun and pinchy power claw....</span><br />

<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The last three are the religious pairing of a lunatic who likes to burn heretics and then chop them up with the chainsword that he's welded to the underside of his flamer (don't try this at home kids!) and a preacher who likes to read Harry Potter whilst slaying the unbelievers. The third one is an Eldar and he's based on a fantastic Dark Elf assassin model who has been 40k-ified with the addition of a shuriken catapult and stuff on his belt.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Lots of different parts in all of these and a real blast to build. And we've even started playing! Here are some of the adventurers in action.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">It's a great little system and we absolutely smashed it. However, it's a legacy game and so you draw a card to see what gets added to the game after each expedition...... and after the first expedition we drew the mighty Chaos Lord so we may see him sooner than we'd like - yikes!</span></div>
