30k big fight - charge!!!

So, the moment that we've been planning ever since the silverback went and bought the first Horus Heresy book at Lenton (right after we talked at length about the 30k line and how it was too expensive to get into..... Sigh) - we finally got all of our stuff in the table!

The game was the mechanicum holding the middle and five forces pouring in from the corners to try and take them out

Watch out for those iron hands in the distance (in alternate armour colour)

And now a little closer

The daemons attack....

Get on with it slow coaches! Those three lonely imperial fists are the only survivors of their storm eagle being one-shotted by that sicarian in the top right

Bundle! This is about the point the daemons discovered how hard the mechanicum stuff was, even in combat.

A great day was had by all and a jolly close game that saw units removed by the bucketload and the 30k carnage starts here.

Rebasing

I built my death guard before the move to 32mm bases.  I must admit that marines do look better in larger bases, more in proportion I think.

Rather than rip them off the old bases on start again I acquired some of the adaptors that were established through a Kickstarter.  These are excellent and very quick to stick on.  All I then needed to do was replicate the old basing on the new bit.  Still a couple of hours work but I think it was worth the effort.

30k Death Guard - First steps

So, after the wash-athon, the stick-athon and then the undercoat-athon, over recent weeks I have been making real inroads into my fledgling Death Guard.

So the most important point to make is that this simple colour scheme with the worn "we don't wash as if we were teenage boys" look is complex, time consuming and a great project. I did not want to throw these together base coat and drybrush and throw them on the table.  I wanted to focus and get back in the modelling and painting side of the hobby.  Lastly, I need to be able to take better pics - these are stunning in real life and the light camera combo does not work.

Anyway, to date I have painted and weathered to completion

17 Legionnaires
2 x Radio Men
5 x Grave Wardens
1 x Champion
1 x Master of Signal
1 x Apothocary
5 x Destroyers
5 x heavy support with Lascannons.
1 x Rapier
Sicarian
Medusa
40k demolisher which started as a test vehicle but I painted to completion, as I will loot this from the Imperial Fists at some time

Half painted

1 x Spartan
3 x Rhinos
1 x Apothocary
10 x Deathshrouds
10 x Legionnaires
5 x Flamers

Then I go back into the wash-stick-undercoat routine for:
10 x Breachers
2 x Sgts
5 x Destroyers
Mortarian
Typhon
5 x Grave Warden
1 x Achilles Land Raider

Anyway, to the poor pics

Test figure for DG and my first mechanicum

So, a lucky chaos space marine went retro as my test figure for the basic DG scheme.  What is missing from this is some streaking and more wear and tear on the armour, but that can be added to the proper figures.

Then with a spare hour I decided to paint a castellax, easy paint job.  Once I get weathering the vehicles there wil be dust on the legs of this, but no need yet.

Death Guard - started

So here is my first real death guard 30k unit, and what a start!  10 Deathshroud terminators reporting for duty.

FW have learnt a little and now pair arms to weapon, so less time going through 10 arms and 5 weapons  trying to get the right set!  Nice touch
