Yet more Robots....

...and some artillery!

Not too mch more to do then I can look to texturing the bases prior to undercoating them.

I'm currently thinking of a light brown and green scheme for the KoB and a simple Dunkelgelb scheme for the PE. I want to carry the colour schemes over to the DL forces in 28mm that I have so I'm not rushing the decision on what colours to go for.

Landships Ahoy!

Couple more tanks prepped for DW.

Still not sure whether I should go for a grey military look or something more colourful like dunkelgelb with stripes. This said, I haven't decided what scheme to use for the KoB and they've been undercoated for well over a year.

Damn! I got paint on my figure!

After a couple of years it's been interesting to pick up a brush and start painting my test Skitarri Vanguard. I'd completely forgotten how many decisions there are when starting a new army!

The following pictures show very much a wip paint scheme.
Essentially the army has to tie in to my Khorne army paint scheme whilst also remaining true to a Mechanicus paint scheme for Stygies VIII. This is where the limited palette of reds, silvers and blacks come in.

The main colour is black for Stygies and I've then given the cloak a couple of washes with Nuln Oil to give a more jaded look. The armour was Khorne Red but I didn't like it so then opted for Leadbelcher to match the bionic limbs: this will then be washed with Sepia and Crimson to bring out a dark rust look which will then match my Khorne army.

The cloth under suit was the one thing that I painted last night and then spent all day considering it because something wasn't sitting right. Last night the trousers and gloves were dark grey (Fang) and tonight they are Khorne Red. I realised today that grey is a blue based colour which of course is on the wrong colour wheel for the warm reds. That's why it was jarring. Honest.

The Radium carbine has a red/orange power source that will differentiate it from my Plasma (green) and Arc (blue) weapons.

And the annoying joins on either side of the cloak are not that obvious at the usual table top height in normal lighting: they are a pain in the backside though... :)

Need to finish this now, complete some highlighting and washing before I sit back and decide more changes are needed!!

It's not raining!!

Quick!

Into the car park to get some spraying done!

These two bad boys have been sat waiting for an undercoat for a while now. They are the last of my mechanicum forces that were needing undercoating and now I'm hoping to get cracking on finishing them all soon.

Well that's the plan.

Look at the Size of my Gun!

Another successful weekend of hobbying in that last week's efforts have been undercoated; and yes swirling winds do make spraying a little tricky.

And the Ranger squad are built!
These guys don't necessarily fit the Khorne doctrine of get close and personal so I'll come up with something suitable later. You get 1 of each of the 3 special weapons per box (Plasma, Arc Rifle and Arquebus) and since I have 3 boxes of Skitarri it meant I had 3 Arquebus all sat there waiting to be used....

I hate to disappoint big guns so my Ranger unit was born. The chap in charge (Alpha) also has a rifle as giving him a pistol and combat weapon seems a waste on a unit with 30" and 60" range guns. If these get in to combat then something has screwed up. I expect they'll end up in combat in their first battle knowing my luck!!

I really like the fact these guns are sooooo long that they need a stand to hold them in place.

Just for the record these boys are BS4 (not counting their doctrines) and the rifle held by 7 of them is a 30" Rapid Fire, Precision Shot, Str4 AP4 thing. The Arquebus is a 60" Heavy1, Armourbane, AP3 Sniper rifle. Oh and these boys are relentless so that Heavy1 doesn't matter.

Next up: Building a Dunecrawler Walker and starting to paint the test Vanguard figure.

And more importantly: I'm having a lot of fun again!

30k Wordbearers jump troops

As there was no way I was going to be able to resist not having a legion on both sides in the HH era, I wanted to make sure my legions played differently. The salamanders are ground pounders, advancing slowly with flamers and meltas. My Wordbearers are going to be close combat troops with daemons as allies!
To that end, one of my troops choices will be this twenty strong jump pack unit.
I know, I know, the jump packs aren't the 30k ones...... But as I could get this unit together by scavenging from Wark's bits (yet again!) and using a few troops from the betrayal at Calth set as opposed to paying £140 at FW, I was decided. The way I see it, these are the first tester jump packs the Wordbearers were trialling. The armour is all mark IV or mark VI, so meets the HH criteria :)
Loads of inscriptions as usual for these religious loons.

Now the two compulsory troop choices are done, it's onto the fun stuff next!

Lunchtime Tinkerings

I've tried to kick myself back into gear at home in the evenings to get my Horus Heresy stuff done (hmmm probably should do some blog posts about that as well) but I've also tasked myself with being a bit more productive at lunchtimes once again.

With that in mind I am going to try and bring Dystopian Wars to the table again in 2016. Not naval warfare this time as I'm not sure that it really caught our attention that much. However I've always had a hankering for a game with lots of iddie biddie tanks and the land based DW stuff is just the sort of thing that flicks my switch!

My Kingdom of Britannia land stuff sits at home all put together, based and undercoated and I fully intend to get some serious batch painting done, after a chunk of the HH stuff, to get a sizable force table ready. My lunchtime aim is to get the Prussian Empire forces, which I seem to have a lot of, to the same point so I can do the KoB and move straight on to the PE. These things aren't complicated builds and the Spartan castings are usual top-notch so they don't take long to prep.

I painted up some smaller landing craft a couple of years back and I'd picked this one up cheap as I do have the hope of doing a beachhead game at some point.

Some clanky fun!

Some even bigger clanky fun! The dreaded Metzer! The robot bases need texturing but then they'll be ready for a spray.

Two of the six Zeppelins that I find myself owning. The others are a bit smaller but a nice start to my airbourne floatilla.

Still to do?

Mobile airbase (Huge monster!)
Loads of tanks of various sizes
Some more robots
and some planes.

It might be a good idea for me to cost out the points for both the Kob and PE as I suspect the plucky Brits might well be outnumbered and....hey..I need an excuse to buy them some more air support!
;-)

I brought some 6mm buildings a while back and the scenery maker in me is screaming to start that. I've got all sorts of ideas about nice contoured pieces with little lane and hedgerows. Can't wait.

But i must wait.

Until I've finished a big chunk of my Heresy painting.

Too many toys and not enough time to play with them!
